Danielle Gamble Summer needs a soundtrack. Summer calls for songs that tell stories and those songs will become stories of their own. Every summer is better than the last, meaning that the music that underscores it must be better too. Local Minneapolis based band, Sing It Loud has made this soundtrack. The band’s five members, vocalist Pat Brown, bassist Nate Flynn, keyboardist Ban Peterson, guitarist Kieren Smith and drummer Chris "Sick Boy" Lee formed the band in 2007. Soon after their formation, Epitaph records signed them and they went to work right away. Their first album, Come Around was released in 2008. It was easy to tell that the band was just getting started. The disc was filled was pop punk songs that left listeners head bopping and singing along. The second album, Everything Collide was released May 7 and has by far been an improvement. The group has definitely matured since they started. As mentioned before, this album is the perfect summer soundtrack. It has a little bit of everything. Starting out with "Sugar Sweet", the first single off the album, the rest looks promising. Bursting with energy, sincerity and a more mature vibe, high school kids everywhere are bound to this song blaring from their car speakers. This album also has songs with a low key feeling. The song, "Letting Go", is a bitter-sweet ballad that is the perfect end to any summer romance. Much like Come Around, this album is going to get your foot tapping, but it can also get you thinking. The band was formed when most of the members were fresh out of high school and in the three years since, they have changed and grown up and it is apparent in the lyrics.
The band also has a dedicated local following. Being from the Minneapolis area, it was easy to get a fan base. There are always kids looking for shows. Sing It Loud screams Minnesota pride. They even have a t-shirt that reads in metallic on the front, "Sing It Loud Minneapolis Fo’ Life". The perfect summer soundtrack |
