Lara Dufresne "The three of us all come from different groups of people and that really makes a difference in terms of creativity and such," said Cummins, who has a few ideas of her own to start the school year in the fall. Traditionally, all presidents unanimously agree to keep the senior picnic, a topic of much debate and that they currently support. And as generous as this year was to volunteering, they would like to top that and give even more time to helping others next year. Their goal: to get the whole student body involved, and they will do that with their ingenious ideas for a fun school environment. "They tried the independent film festival and we want to do it again this year," said Krueger. "We would also like to get more student involvement in Homecoming and BLAST week by making the days more fun and original." What the presidents have been watching out for has been what students have liked in the past. All three student leaders take into account what the student body appreciates and what does not work for them, which will make them the leaders they were nominated for. "We have all had leadership roles many times in our lives, so I believe we will have a very strong core group to support the council," said Cummins. "It helps tremendously to have past experience with leadership, and that will help us make next year all that it can be." The expectations of administration are to find a professional and attainable goal for next year’s class. So far, these goals have turned out more logical and even more enthusiastic then expected. "[The student council president and vice president] provide a lot to the school. It’s great to see what they do community outreach-wise," said Principal Ryan Laager. "I think in the past two years I’ve been here we’ve had excellent people in those roles."
The enthusiastic leaders will hopefully provide much initiative for the new school year and recount the things that make Stillwater Area High School’s student body a tight-knit community through their innovative minds.
