Guitars slammed as students jumped across the stage in a kind of frenzy that is characteristic of most adolescent bands. As Ice Kills Fizz finished their last song, the population of the backstage crew and fellow performers mobbed the stage in a form of a mosh-pit that enveloped the band.

"It was ridiculous," said senior Kendra Kyndberg. "I wasn't even a part of the show and I got dragged out."

The Student Council organized the annual competition that was held on Jan. 27. Featuring five student based bands and several in-between acts, this show show-cased much of the talent that we have at Stillwater.

"It was a wonderful experience to see all of the talent that Stillwater students have," said junior Roman Yanish. "I am extremely grateful to have taken part in the production. I only wish that more people could have come to share the fun!"

The Funk Band received first place. With their excellent choice of covers and creative originals, they won the crowd over. With impromptu dance parties occurring all over the auditorium they connected with the audience in a way that no other band was able to, earning them first place.

"It was a party backstage when the Funk Band went on," said Hill-Murray freshman and front man for Jim the Fish, Colin Campbell. "And I hope it was just as fun for the people in front."

Second and third place was won by the bands Jim the Fish and Past Hour Time respectively. Jim the Fish utilized their experience as a band and their empowering stage presence to shoot them to second. Whereas Past Hour Time, the underdogs of the competition, led by front man and junior Joey Gergen took a different approach. Basing their style off of 60s and 70s psychedelic music, their progressive sound won them third and a respected place among Stillwater's top bands.

"I was originally going to see Jim the Fish," said Kyndberg. "But I was impressed by the variety of genres and musical talent of the other bands involved."

The five bands included a large array of genres. Featuring everything from hardcore to sultry funk the show had it all.

"I think that Battle of the Bands went off without a hitch," said senior and student council member Adrian Benjamin. "Although there were a couple of glitches, awkward silences, etc, it primarily went smoothly."
